Lowe’s Companies, Inc. announced on January 14, 2005 it will locate its new data center in Winston-Salem. The new data center is the hub for the company’s computer processing and information technology operations. It will have redundant power and telecommunication sources and the capacity to expand to meet the company’s growing information technology needs.
“Our existing data center in Wilkes County has served Lowe’s well for 20 years, but as the company grows, extended capacity is needed,” explained Steve Stone, Lowe’s senior vice president of information technology and chief information officer. “We have been evaluating sites in metropolitan areas for several months, and believe the Winston-Salem location can best meet our current and future needs, while being conveniently located to our operations in Wilkesboro and Mooresville.”
The three-story 86,000 square-foot data center is expected to employ approximately 20 to 25 people, with room for expansion. The center is expected to be operational by mid-2005. The company plans to invest $100 million in equipment and facility renovations over the next ten years.
“We are very excited that Lowe’s Home Improvement has chosen Winston-Salem for this important project,” said Bob Leak, Jr., President of Winston-Salem Business Inc. “We appreciate the confidence Lowe’s has in our community and their commitment of a significant long term investment.”
